With this method the bands are stretched and add tension at the top of the movement. Lifting against bands means you reduce the load at the start of the lift. This has two main effects. Reducing the load means less force to overcome the force of gravity, and also less force to accelerate (inertia). Because of this you can accelerate quickly and reach a faster speed in the middle of the lift, and also accelerate for longer as the bands keep adding resistance as you progress through the lift.
